Idi Amin had six official wives and several mistresses during his life. His first wife, Malyamu, was his high school sweetheart and remained with him throughout his political career. His second wife, Kay, was a Ugandan air hostess who he met during a flight. He divorced his first and second wives in 1974 and 1975, respectively.
His third wife, Nora, was a Sudanese who he married while on a state visit to Sudan. His fourth wife was Madina, a former beauty queen. He divorced Nora and Madina in 1979, and both went into exile. His fifth wife was Sarah Kyolaba, known as "Suicide Sarah" because she attempted suicide twice during her time as Amin's wife. His sixth and final wife was Nalongo Irene Drusilla Namaganda, a former go-go dancer.
Amin's relationships with his wives were often violent and abusive. Several of his wives suffered physical and emotional abuse, and some were even killed or went missing. Nora and Madina were believed to have been killed by his agents, while Sarah fled Uganda after surviving several assassination attempts.
